Finland – NATO Agricola Congregation’s Lecture Series

The Agricola Program Planning team invited the Honourable, Reverend Dr. Rob Oliphant to speak about Finland’s NATO membership on Saturday, February 24, 2024.  

In addition to being the Member of Parliament for Don Valley West, Dr. Oliphant has also been serving as the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the past five years. Therefore, he has an in-depth knowledge about NATO.  Dr. Oliphant played an important role on the Canadian negotiation team in helping Finland to secure its membership.  

Dr. Oliphant visited Finland on vacation in the summer of 2022 and fell in love with the country.  He also made two official trips to Finland last year.  Dr. Oliphant was excited to represent the government as a member of the Governor General’s state visit delegation to Finland early 2023.  Dr. Oliphant’s second visit was to be both a government representative and a member of the Foreign Relations Committee. The purpose of these two visits was to signal to Europe, the world and Russia the importance to continuously secure and guarantee peace in Finland and in Canada and around the world. Finland’s NATO membership would make both Finland and NATO stronger and safer.
